About

Obviously, you were curious enough about me to come and look at my “About” page. Cool. Just to enlighten you, and ease that curious mind, I’ll tell you a little about myself.

I am an amateur photographer (which sounds waaay too professional) developing my skills in California. I live in an awesome, rickety old house on an acre-and-a-third with my totally wacky and caring family. While photography is one of my main pursuits, I have many other activities. I enjoy: acting, baking/cooking, anything architectural (whether it be designing, observing, or learning), and reading anything from “Alex Rider” to “The Gathering Storm” by Winston Churchill, a treatise on the Second World War.

Unfortunately, I operate on tight resources, so no lavish trips around the world every weekend. No “this is me in Bratislava last month…” or “I decided to pop over to Abu Dhabi…” But still, I’ll make the best of the opportunities I have, with the imagination I possess.

I hope you enjoy…

  1. I know you hear this a lot, maybe.. But your pictures are more than just “beautiful clicks”. They have soul, and life in them. I am able to see the beauty and inspiration you’re able to see with your eyes, through your pictures. That’s Photography, to me. It’s amazing that you’re doing so much more than ‘clickin pictures of beautiful things with a good camera and calling it photography’. I also love the way you edit your pictures. In fact, I think I love the editing more. Also, the way you frame a shot.. is amazing. I feel like saying it again.. there’s so much LIFE in all of your pictures. I like the way you make use of colors too. And last but not the least, the way you title your pics!

Glad I found your blog. πŸ™‚

  2. Congrats on doing the one photo a day so successfully! I’ve been telling myself I should attempt that for such a long time, but I never really got around to it haha. Soon.. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks! I think its a challenge not only to take beautiful photographs, but also to do that in a very small area day after day. Kudos to you for unleashing your creativity no matter how small a budget you may have! =)

  3. I discovered your blog through Sonel. I think it’s one of the most beautiful blogs I’ve seen (if not the best looking). Your photographs are very inspired and creative and I believe you are a photographer. I really like your “About” information and you already. I’m very pleased to have “met” you! πŸ™‚ Doris

      • Thanks for sharing you blog and thoughts with me. It is good to see things differently and that is what makes us all unique. I am not posting this ‘award’ to get more people to my blog because I write my blog for me but since I was given it I figured I could give a shout out to some of the people who’s blogs I read.

There was no pressure so keep doing what you do. πŸ™‚

        Have a great day.

      • Kylabee,

I am so sorry that you thought that I thought your only motivation for giving awards was to get views. In my page explaining my take on awards, I suppose I didn’t really communicate that I do respect other people giving and receiving awards, and that I understand those who do it to spread a community. I was talking only of a certain group of people, and unfortunately I generalized… :\

Thanks for visiting my About page and letting me know your take on the situation. =)

  4. Grant, your photos are amaaaazing!! Quite the professional photographer. πŸ™‚
I wish I could take great pics like you do. I’ve always wanted to learn photography, but I don’t have a nice DSLR yet (and I don’t really have that much time).
Anyways, keep up the fantastic work!
    See ya at the play.

    • Loren!

Thanks so much for the comment! Photography can be really fun (even if you don’t have a DSLR, I had a point-and-shoot for a looong time…) and I hope to see more photos of your dog, he (she?) is so cute!

  5. I think you should also mention the model you use, not that it is the gadget that makes the best pictures, … but yes, it would help people like me how would want to make the best buy πŸ™‚

    • Hmm…I should have included that in my About…oops. Maybe I’ll make an edit. πŸ™‚ Just so you know, I use a Canon Rebel T3i, with either an 18-55mm lens, or my 50-250mm. I use Aperture for post-processing. πŸ™‚

  6. I love that you seem to focus on the details (my favorite kind of photos to take!!!). I’m excited to see your posts in my reader! Love me some sweet sweet detail goodness!

  7. Hey, thanks for the blog visit. Your photos are lovely and I like your style. I’ve added you to my feedreader. πŸ™‚

  8. Thanks for stopping by …. enjoyed reading your about and definetlely prefer the less “exotic” photo images myself! Really enjoyed looking at your work.

  9. Hi, thanks for stopping by my blog. Glad you enjoyed! You’ve got some great stuff here. And I completely understand the whole “limited resources so I can’t go take fancy pictures all around the world” bit; most of my pictures are taken at or pretty close to home. But I also agree that with a good eye and imagination, you can take a great picture of just about anything. Keep up the good work! πŸ™‚

  10. Thanks for visiting my blog. You’ve got some really nice pictures here. As long as you keep your eyes and mind open, there are beautiful/ interesting moments all around you and you don’t really need to travel far away to find them πŸ™‚

  11. I’m really enjoying this! There’s something delightfully random and happenstance about the posts. Your love of blossom reminds me that, within about 4 weeks, central and eastern Turkey will be alight with blossom on plum, cherry, apricot and apple trees! The Malatya area would get your heart racing, I assure you! Glad you like “In search of unusual destinations”, by the way. Phil.

    • Cool, I’m so glad you like my blog! πŸ™‚ Yeah, I would really like to be in Turkey about 4 weeks from now. Blossoms are one of my favorite things to photograph…as you an probably tell! Thanks for dropping by!

  12. Lovely blog! Thank you for stopping by mine! A photo a day by me πŸ™‚ We have much in common! I am in California as well (the Central Coast) and I too operate on very, very, tight resources, read most of what I can get my hands on and love anything architectural!

And I try really, really hard not to be envious of those photographers who can claim “β€œthis is me in Bratislava last month…” or β€œI decided to pop over to Abu Dhabi…!” I’ve been out of the country twice, both times to Mexico on mission trips.

Nice to meet a fellow Californian! Mind if I ask where? We just might be neighbors!

Looking forward to following your blog!

    • Thank you so much, I really appreciate your encouragement!

I know how you feel. I see all these people going to China and Europe and I’m like drooling. πŸ™‚

Yeah, I’ve only been out of the country once, to Europe, but that was before I was into photography, what a shame!

I’m glad you’re following me! Thanks so much! πŸ™‚

  13. thanks for the likes on my various posts. I enjoyed looking through your blog. I have found that there are so many things to take photos of that are nearby that I don’t have to go to Madagascar or somewhere else to get a nice shot. If you learn to find the beautiful things where you are standing , then you can bring those special sites and moments to those who see your photos. I have an exercise I do to pick a spot and try to find 10 things within 15-20 feet of that spot to photograph. It really helps you “see” better with your photography. Keep up the good work.

  14. Thanks so much for “liking” my photo so that I could find your awesome blog! I’ll definitely be following.

  15. Wow really great photos – I love your style and how you get really into the detail of things, that is what I love to do too. Thanks for commenting on my blog as it has lead me to your wonderful blog! πŸ™‚

  16. Great About Me page. Love your writing and humour. Your photos are fantastic and I look forward to checking out more! πŸ™‚ p.s. thanks for liking my post.

  17. Very nice work. I am a former magazine and book photo editor and recently started up a photography community/blog (hopefully leading to gallery exhibits, etc.) and would like to invite you to submit work if you think it is a match. I’m not sure if your life has been touched by depression or other mental illness, either yourself or others close to you, but that is our tie that binds. Please take a look, and join and/or submit some images if it feels right. We would welcome your talent to our community.
